How to's...
Taking the Mission Field
to the Mission Field

Transformational Giving vs. Transactional Giving
How can I serve others?   vs.   What can I get out of this?

"In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said,'It is more blessed to give than receive.'" Acts 20:35

Often times the same people are receiving through mission trips but have no outlet or opportunity to be blessed by giving back through missions.

This ministry seeks to partner churches together to provide an outlet and opportunity for these individuals to experience the blessing of giving.

"But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 26 It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, 28 even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:25-28

Often times on a short term mission trip, we are blessed because we are giving out. In return, for many groups this has become the main reason for going on a trip.

Jesus is our example for how we should live and he was not about "what He could get out of it" rather He was about, "How he could serve others?"

"As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life."  I Timothy 6:17-19

Giving of oneself to serve others leads to changed lives (Transformational Giving) rather than a one time gift that will evaporate quickly and be gone (Transactional Giving).

Passion Missions is "Making a Way" for both the giver and receiver (Taking the Mission Field) to serve each other while serving others on the mission field (To the Mission Field) through partnering and connecting them through Transformational Giving.

Empowerment   vs.  Adopting
Teaching Responsibility vs.  Taking Responsibility

"Give a man a fish

                           ...feed him for a day.

                                                          Teach a man to fish

                                                                                         ...feed him for a lifetime."

"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone."
I Corinthians 12:4-6

The same God that feeds the birds of the air and clothes the lilies of the field, cares more deeply for each one of us than we could ever imagine. We have value to our God, the creator of the universe.

Our society would like to place labels and classifications, but in God's economy we are all simply His Children. And to each of us He has equipped us with different gifts, talents and abilities.

By Loving one another and working together, we can be effective for the Kingdom of God! "By our love they will know that we are Christians."

Passion Missions' desire is to connect churches to empower and equip one another. The Bible tells us that iron sharpens iron.

We are not looking for churches to adopt other churches and take responsibility for those that are less fortunate. Rather we seek churches that are willing to teach and train each other to be responsible to fulfill the Great Commission.

Not to give another free hand out but to offer a hand up to those that would otherwise not be able to afford to go on a mission trip.

Bridge Builders      vs.    Stalemate Standoff
How can I close the gap                  How can I stay where I am
so people can cross over?   vs.       and keep them over there?

Children in Jamaica using the scrap wood to build their own little house
"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13:34-35

"But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves." James 1:22

Christians sometimes look accross the Bridge and admire the other side thinking that the grass may be better over there. However, afraid to get out of their comfort zones they settle in their complacency being okay with the giant casm that separates the two.

Instead we need to find ways to to start building and bringing together, "elbow to elbow" rather than watching and waiting from a distance.

Passion Missions lays a foundation for the bridge by building relationships between groups and providing a source of accountability for all involved.

The groups can take the bridge further by:

  • Doing outreach together locally in their communities
  • Share in Fundraising opportunities
  • Fellowship and break bread together
  • Worship the Lord together
  • Learn the others strengths and weaknesses and compliment each other
  • Encourage one another: Share their testimonies
  • Spend time together in training sessions for your mission trip

Competition  vs. Collaboration
This is My territory vs. This is God's territory

As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ we are not only on the same team but we are "One Body." As a team we are only as strong as our weakest member. And as "One Body" we must learn to work together to operate in the fullness that God intended.

"But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, 29 so that no human being might boast in the presence of God." I Corinthians 1:27-29

In our flesh, we are but dust and to dust we shall return.

Jesus said in John 15:5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing."

God is the one that makes all things possible. In Isaiah 55 the Bible tells us that God's thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are much higher than our ways.

“The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.” 21 So let no one boast in men." I Corinthians 3:20-21

If noone minds who gets the credit...

                                              God gets the glory!
